SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Children engage in activities that help them grow in confidence and independence. Staff encourage each child to develop new respectful friendships. Each year GLO Teachers prepare a developmental report which assesses life skills, social/emotional development, and areas for growth.
DIVERSE STAFF - Our bilingual staff helps to support Alvarado Elementary School’s Spanish Immersion Program. GLO Staff are also able to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of the many families and children to whom English is not their first language. We are here for all families!

KIDS CLUBS...
Are project-based activities prepared and taught by the program staff. Popular Kids Clubs in the past have included Sewing, Cooking, Lion Dancing, Team Challenges and Mask Making, just to name a few. Kids Clubs give the children a chance to interact with small, mixed-age-groups to create a fun learning experience!
ACADEMIC SUPPORT...
We believe that homework is a habit that children need to learn at a young age to ensure future academic success. To support students’ daily homework assignments, we provide a quiet atmosphere to focus, bilingual staff to offer guidance, assistance, encouragement, and facilitate peer learning. Additionally, GLO Staff communicates with the school faculty to help students who need extra academic support.
CHOICES...
Give children the opportunity to choose from a variety of activities. Choices include science, group games, art, inside activity and outside or inside free play. Empowering students to make choices teaches positive decision making and self confidence. The curriculum is designed to help children socialize, master new skills and to have fun.
SNACK...
GLO@Alvarado provides children with a nutritional snack everyday. Our snack consists of a bread/cracker, fruit/vegetable, a protein and a choice of milk, juice or water. Children involved in the snack preparation learn about serving size and healthy eating habits.

GLO Academy ... Youth Development in Action
GLO Academy is an exciting new project uniquely designed for GLO 4th & 5th Graders. The GLO Academy experience is inspired by the personal growth and curiosity attached to this stage in life, in order to draw out the very best in each of our children. GLO Academy is delivered in two main components: The Leadership Circle and Enrichment Majors.
Special Events
Throughout the school-year GLO at Alvarado hosts Special Events for the children and their families. Each Special Event is made possible by parent and community volunteers.
