STAFF - Our bilingual staff support the Spanish Immersion school community with dual language newsletters , written communications, and interaction with parents, as well as bilingual enrichment activities and help with homework in Spanish.
PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SCHOOL - Through collaboration and positive communication with the school faculty, we ensure a seamless transition between the program and the school day. GLO at Fairmount works with a Lead Teacher (school staff) to help our staff develop professionally and to help bridge the school day with afterschool. We also participate on the school support team to ensure that students with additional support receive streamlined services throughout the day.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT - Parents participate in the GLO Site Council, a parent group which meets monthly to provide oversight, support for the program, and plan fundraising events. The GLO Site Council helps bridge the school PTA and SSC with GLO, and help advocate for our program in the community.
Program Philosophy
GLO at Fairmount aims to build an afterschool community among youth and adults alike, by creating an atmosphere inclusive of a diverse range of participants and staff. Our program strives to make the afterschool hours a special experience by providing opportunities for enrichment activities that support the school day instruction objectives, social skills development, an emphasis on multicultural and multilingual curriculum, and service learning in the greater community. As an accredited program, we use the 40 Developmental Assets as a framework to support Early Childhood Education and Youth Development ¡Bienvenidos a GLO en Fairmount!
Who We Are
GLO at Fairmount provides the school community with a service that is vital to the parents and children. Beginning in 2006, we have partnered with SFUSD’s School Health Programs and San Francisco’s Department of Children Youth and Their Families to bring high quality after school programming (low teacher to child ratio, nutritious snacks, innovative enrichment activities, fitness program, academic support) regardless of income level. We serve over 150 children and offer full scholarships to nearly 100 families and financial aide to several others, creating one high quality program for all.
