GLO’s annual Comic Con started off as the brain child of Site Coordinator Cepideh Jaberi (who is now a Program Manager for GLO) in 2015. Inspired from her own love for reading, Jaberi’s intention was to infuse literacy, develop language and promote public speaking through the Comic Con event.
In the after school program each grade group picks a story, book, or comic book for the event. They create a visual presentation such as a tri-fold board. A speaker is chosen to present at a panel discussion and the other children in the group dress up as characters from the story. After the panel discussions a carnival takes place complete with games inspired by the stories presented at the comic con event. The event is open to families.
Last Friday, January 26th, two of our GLO programs conducted their Comic Con events. Check out these cute pictures from the event!
