What's happening at GLO at Sherman?

The Green and Purple tribe focused on cooking. They did a joint cooking class that focused on Asian/American fusion cooking, making squash potstickers! Then they created a book together to be displayed at the event.  "You are what you eat" included watercolors by the purple tribe of their favorite meal with their families and "I am" poems by the green tribe. What's happening at GLO at CIS?

In November GLO Students had a wide variety of enriching clubs to choose from.  They were: Ninja School, Safari Adventure, Doll House Party, Make your Own Instruments, The Thanksgiving Club, Kickball, and the Tie-Dye Club.  As you can guess from their titles, the clubs ranged from creative to physical, imaginative to musical, thoughtful to mind-clearing and some involved a bit of everything.  Students learned about animals, musical instruments, good sportsmanship, defense strategies and more!  In the Thanksgiving Club, students attempted to make a non-bake pumpkin pie, but Ms. Angela said that it turned out more like a science experiment than a dessert.  Be sure to ask your child what they learned in their Kids' Club!
Although all the clubs had something special to offer, we would like to highlight the Ninja School Club this month.  Each week the ninja students returned from their club smiling, full of energy and usually a little sweaty.  Mr. Zach says, Ninja School was a school of self-defense that incorporated stranger safety, conflict resolution and general physical health. The students practiced the steps involved to defend themselves from strangers, including what to say to strangers as well as how to avoid dangerous situations.  The club took the focus off of the violent aspects of martial arts and focused more on defending oneself.  The students learned effective stress coping techniques and practiced conflict resolution communication.
